This week’s episode of St. Lou Side Eye takes a look at St. Louis Snacks. (We’re going to go ahead and call Everclear a snack, for our comedic purposes.)
Who among us wasn’t raised on delicious discount soda, Vess? With flavors like strawberry, grape, pineapple and the ever-confusing “cream” – Vess was a staple in most St. Louis households. Remember putting together your custom case of 24 and fighting with your siblings over who got the last black cherry? Our panelists try Vess as adults, and judge whether it lives up to its memory.
To make things more interesting, we also threw some Everclear Grain Alcohol in the mix! Also a St. Louis product, Everclear is bottled at 151-proof (75.5% ABV) and 190-proof (95% ABV).
Fun fact: As of 2013, sale of the 151-proof version is prohibited in the states of California, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Iowa, Michigan, New York, Nevada, Ohio, Washington, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Minnesota. So naturally that’s the one we had our panelists testing with their Vess.
So that no one drank Everclear on an empty stomach, we gave our guests some delicious Red Hot Riplets to munch on as well.
Questions raised in this video:
- What is an excessive amount of Everclear?
- What is cream soda, exactly?
- How expensive is CO2?
See their thoughts in the video below, and share with us your fondest memory of St. Louis Snacks! As always, if there’s a St. Louis product you’d like us to test, let us know in the comments.
